Call for Exhibition Proposals

Artists, curators, artist groups, and instructors are encouraged to submit a proposal for an exhibition at LowellArts between the summer of 2020 and winter of 2022.

DEADLINE: October 31, 2019

Artists, curators, artist groups, and instructors are encouraged to submit a proposal for an exhibition at LowellArts between the summer of 2020 and winter of 2022.

The LowellArts Gallery can hold 100-150 pieces of artwork at one time in a space that can be modified to accommodate either a single exhibition or several smaller exhibitions. Exhibition proposals will be considered from individual artists, groups of up to 10 artists, and groups of 11 or more artists. Individual artists selected for an exhibition will be part of a combined show with other artists. Artist groups may also be paired with another group. Proposals should include an estimate of the number and approximate size of pieces in the proposed exhibition.

LowellArts exhibitions are free of charge and open to the public. Exhibitions are designed to give artists an opportunity to display their work in a professional setting, and offers the West Michigan public an opportunity to view exciting, innovative, and exceptional artwork. Exhibitions are typically 5-7 weeks in length.

All artists submitting an individual proposal, or who are part of an artist group, must be at least 18 years old. Artwork must be original work completed in the last three years and not previously exhibited at LowellArts. All artists who are selected and have their work on display in a LowellArts gallery exhibition, will be required to have a current LowellArts membership. Annual memberships are $40.

Commercial reproductions, including giclée prints, are not acceptable. Traditional print media, photography, and digital art should be from a limited edition. There are no size restrictions, but artwork should be easily moved by 2 people and fit through a standard door. LowellArts is a community, family-friendly gallery. The LowellArts Gallery Committee reserves the right to refuse artwork that is not appropriate for all viewing audiences.

LowellArts will provide exhibit space and will set-up the exhibition including supplying labels for each piece. A limited number of pedestals are available. Artwork must be ready for presentation upon delivery. All hanging works should be framed and fitted with secure hanging wire. D-Rings are allowed for larger, heavy 2-dimensional pieces. Fabric wrapped canvases are allowed and do not require additional framing. Frames with exposed glass edges are not acceptable. Saw tooth hangers are not permitted.

All pieces must be hand-delivered or shipped. For shipped work, include a prepaid return shipping label. All packing and shipping costs are the responsibility of the artist. Artwork must remain in the exhibition through the end of the exhibition. Shipped artworks will be sent back in the packing materials they arrived in.

LowellArts will create and distribute a press release for the exhibition, will submit exhibition announcements to regional web outlets, and will feature the exhibition on the LowellArts website and social media. Artists should supply a list of works with the following information for each piece in the exhibition: Artist Name, Title of Work, Medium, Size, and Price. LowellArts requires a 30% commission on all artwork sold during the exhibition. All artwork must be for sale.

LowellArts will take every precaution to ensure protection of artwork. Owners of artwork will release and hold harmless LowellArts, its staff, and volunteers of any liability that may arise by damage, loss, or theft while artwork is on the LowellArts premises. LowellArts is not responsible for any damage to art objects incurred during regular handling of the work during installation and exhibition. Artists wishing to otherwise insure their work should contact their insurance agents directly. All artwork must arrive be ready to install and meet the entry conditions as described by LowellArts. If these conditions are not met, the artwork will not be included in the exhibition.
