Call for Exhibition Proposals

For artists and artist groups

Proposal Requirements

​1) Title: Exhibition Title

2) Summary: Exhibition summary of intention / theme of show. For group shows, describe how artists will connect to this theme.

3) Artists: List of participating artists & bio information for the artist(s). 1-2 sentences per artist.

4) Amount / Size of Work: Provide an estimate of the total number of pieces to be shown. Include approximate sizes. (EXAMPLE: 6 pieces approx. 20" x 30" | 12 pieces approx. 12" x 12" | 40" round floor sculpture | 8 pieces on small pedestals).

5) Images: Upload 5 to 10 images that represent the type of work that will be in the exhibition. Additional images can be included within a PDF document if desired. Label image files with: File Number, Exhibition Organizer's Last Name and Artist's Full Name. (EXAMPLE: 1-WARHOL-Andy Warhol). Label PDF's with Exhibition Organizer's Last Name. Image size should not to exceed 10MB and should be either an image file (JPEG) or a PDF.

6) Image List: For all image files, list additional information about each image sample. (EXAMPLE: #1 - Artist Name, Title of Piece, Medium, Artwork Size.) If images are provided in a PDF document, the additional information can be included within the document.

Exhibition Proposals can also be delivered by mail or in person, on a CD or USB Flash Drive. Mail / Deliver to: LowellArts, 223 W Main St, Lowell, MI 49331. If your proposal is submitted in this format, please include all the information required on this form.​

 

 

Proposal Fee

A non-refundable proposal fee is required. The amount of the fee is based on the number of artists represented in the proposal:

 

Individual Artist Proposals - $25

Group Proposals of 2 to 10 artists - $50

Group Proposals of 11 or more artists - $75

Fees can be submitted via check mailed or dropped off to LowellArts, through the PayPal link on the LowellArts website, or by calling the office with a credit card number (616-897-8545). Proposal fees must be received before the exhibition proposal deadline.

Individual Artist Proposal - $25

Group Proposal of 2 to 10 artists - $50

Group Proposal of 11 or more artists - $75

Exhibition Proposals

Deadline: May 20, 2022

Artists, curators, artist groups, and instructors are encouraged to submit a proposal for an exhibition at LowellArts between the winter of 2023 and fall of 2024. Approximately 6-8 exhibitions slots are available.

 

The LowellArts Gallery can hold 80 to 100 pieces of artwork at one time in a space that can be modified to accommodate either a single exhibition or several smaller exhibitions. Exhibition proposals will be considered from individual artists, groups of up to 10 artists, and groups of 11 or more artists. Individual artists selected for an exhibition will be part of a combined show with other artists. Artist groups may also be paired with another group. Proposals should include an estimate of the number and approximate size of pieces in the proposed exhibition.

About LowellArts Gallery Exhibitions


LowellArts exhibitions are free of charge and open to the public. Exhibitions are designed to give artists an opportunity to display their work in a professional setting, and offers the West Michigan public an opportunity to view exciting, innovative, and exceptional artwork. Exhibitions are typically 5-7 weeks in length.

 

 

How to Submit a Proposal

​Proposals are submitted by completing an on-line form and uploading image samples. If submitting a proposal of two or more artists, one representative should fill out the on-line form with the required information on behalf of all artists included in the proposal.

Eligibility


All artists submitting an individual proposal, or who are part of an artist group, must be at least 18 years old. Artwork must be original work completed in 2019 or after. Artwork also must not have previously been exhibited at LowellArts.

 

All artists who are selected and have their work on display in a LowellArts gallery exhibition, will be required to have a current LowellArts membership. Annual memberships are $40. Other arrangements can be made for larger group proposals, please inquire.

Artwork Requirements


Commercial reproductions, including giclée prints, are not acceptable. Traditional print media, photography, and digital art should be from a limited edition. There are no size restrictions, but artwork should be easily moved by 2 people and fit through a standard door. LowellArts is a community, family-friendly gallery. The LowellArts Gallery Committee reserves the right to refuse artwork that is not appropriate for all viewing audiences.

Installation & Display Conditions


LowellArts will provide exhibit space and will set-up the exhibition including supplying labels for each piece. A limited number of pedestals are available. Artwork must be ready for presentation upon delivery. All hanging works should be framed and fitted with secure hanging wire. D-Rings are allowed for larger, heavy 2-dimensional pieces. Fabric wrapped canvases are allowed and do not require additional framing. Frames with exposed glass edges are not acceptable. Saw tooth hangers are not permitted.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up


All pieces must be hand-delivered or shipped. For shipped work, include a prepaid return shipping label. All packing and shipping costs are the responsibility of the artist. Artwork must remain in the exhibition through the end of the exhibition. Shipped artworks will be sent back in the packing materials they arrived in.

Publicity & Artwork Information


LowellArts will create and distribute a press release for the exhibition, will submit exhibition announcements to regional web outlets, and will feature the exhibition on the LowellArts website and social media. Artists should supply a list of works with the following information for each piece in the exhibition: Artist Name, Title of Work, Medium, Size, and Price. LowellArts requires a 30% commission on all artwork sold during the exhibition. All artwork in the exhibition should be listed for sale – although some exceptions can be made, please inquire.

Legal Agreement


LowellArts will take every precaution to ensure protection of artwork. Owners of artwork will release and hold harmless LowellArts, its staff, and volunteers of any liability that may arise by damage, loss, or theft while artwork is on the LowellArts premises. LowellArts is not responsible for any damage to art objects incurred during regular handling of the work during installation and exhibition. Artists wishing to otherwise insure their work should contact their insurance agents directly. All artwork must arrive be ready to install and meet the entry conditions as described by LowellArts. If these conditions are not met, the artwork will not be included in the exhibition. Entry to the exhibition also constitutes the artists' consent to LowellArts to use images of their artwork for publicity purposes. All artwork not picked up at the designated times will be considered abandoned and become the property of LowellArts.​
