Fallasburg Artist page

My process starts with the story; what tale does the scene or subject tell, what emotions can it provoke, why does it draw the viewer in. Only after I have a story in mind do I start drafting the painting in pencil. With an initial guide in place I use multiple washes and glazes of transparent watercolor to play light against dark. My goal with any painting is to arrive at a destination that is personal and relatable to the viewer.

I am a realist painter specializing in nautical scenes, rural landscapes, flower portraits, bird studies, vintage transportation studies, and found-object studies. I grew up on Michigan's Saginaw Bay, immersed in the beauty and tranquility of coastal living. My love of nature has evolved and grown over the years, and it continues to lead me back to Michigan's lakes.
